Howdy Gamers!

We have some big game related news, so allow me to get straight into it: RSVPs are required for most points (YES, NO, or MAYBE/TBD), so please send them in!

Particularly Evil Game Night on Wednesdays is back on!

We’re still doing production stuff (especially the Linecutters’ Christmas Call-a-thon) but we’re ready to start taking baby steps back into gaming on Wednesday nights!

The last game we ran was the first chapter of Brothersline (straight D&D 3.5 d20 with the Challenges System twist). We’ll open a new chapter (with potentially new characters etc) after the holidays, but we want to try a few other games in the meanwhile.

Last week I pitched a Star Wars game! There was much rejoicing.

We talked about what time setting to put the game in, and decided it would be after Order 66 – the elimination of the Jedi. Everyone seemed to like the ticking time-bomb feel of a game set right in the middle of the two movie trilogies. I’m still narrowing down the game system we’ll be using, but expect something light and epicy. I have a few options. Encyclopedic knowledge of Star Wars not needed and not healthy.

If you want to play, RSVP! We’re making characters together when next we meet. The game will be short term, but grand scaled.

Dreamation is February 21-24!

Who wants to come?
Who wants to run Ardna for us?

Moving Ardna to the Pathfinder System seems to be what all the big wigs want (a lot of the other developers are asking me to go ahead and do it). It also seems to be what our players/gms want – but I’m curious to know who is still interested in playing and running. RSVP!

Superheroes Wanted!

We’re starting a superhero rpg as well – most likely on Fridays or Sundays. RSVP if you are interested, and include the setting you’d prefer (HOMEBREW, MARVEL, DC) as well as the day.

In all cases when you do RSVP as a MAYBE/TBD, include what/why you need to wait before you can give an answer.

Feel free to ask if this email can be forwarded to anyone else you know!

- Frank

While several professional standup comedians were working on their material at a northern NJ recording studio, they came upon some fellow podcasters enjoying a role-playing game. What follows is a film project dedicated to documenting what happens when three newcomers to the hobby attempt to play their first rpg.

Three normal guys with absolutely no idea what they are about to get themselves into.

And with that announcement, we are proud to present a film-project marrying together some of our favorite things: Comedy & Gaming! Playing with Comedians is a documentary film project that explorers what a group of professional stand-ups make of the role-playing hobby as they dive head first into their first game. Filled with interviews with famous comedians, actual game play, and Q&As that attempt to uncover the biases and bases each player has going into the game, the film explores areas of the hobby that keep it a mystery for so many people.

To find out more about the project (and sign up for a mailing list to keep informed of its development), please visit http://thatisnotanorg.org

By now you’ve possibly heard the news that we’ve brokered a deal with video game giant, Activision in regards to their new Toy Line/Video Game product: Skylanders: Spiro’s Adventure!

We’re very excited about this. The concept is simple and genius – Spiro, the famous Playstation dragon, has discovered a magical country with many strange and wondrous creatures, and much adventuring and brawling can be expected. Where this product really excels is in the design department, specifically the way the game handles stating, world expansion, and collectibles. See, all those cute and memorable citizens of the Skylands are also collectible toys with embedded RF chips, and they remember their stats, grow more powerful with each battle, and when you place the toy on the game-controller pedestal, the character renders in the video game world perfectly.

Activision has partnered with Toys R Us to manufacture these little gold nuggets. Kids love toys. Kids love video games. Kids love capturing endangered animals and making them battle each other. Where can it go wrong?

With this line, the world of collectible toys and video games are merging, but it’s not the first time we’ve seen this. From Heroclix combining our love of superheroes, toys, superhero-toys, and war gaming – to D&D questionable full-step move to the miniature gaming market.

With so many gaming companies moving to the “virtual monthly subscription” model for digital content gaming, this is a very deliberate counter-move that promises to be hugely successful. At least, that’s what we at Particularly Evil are hoping.

What are your thoughts?
